1. Purpose and Ethos
Ahaondéag is a small-scale social network designed around meaningful interaction within groups of eleven people. It emphasises authenticity, respect, consent, and community self-governance instead of followers, likes, or algorithmic feeds.
2. Eligibility and Age
Ahaondéag is intended for users aged 16 years or older. By registering for an account, you confirm that:
- You are at least 16 years of age.
- You are legally able to agree to these Terms in your jurisdiction.
Accounts suspected to be created by minors may be suspended or deleted. We may request age verification where misuse or falsification is suspected.
3. Accounts and Access
- You may maintain only one account.
- You must provide a valid email address for verification and security.
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
- Accounts with no login activity for 11 weeks may be suspended.
- Accounts inactive for 11 months may be permanently deleted.
4. Groups
4.1 Private Groups
Private groups are the stable, invite-only spaces at the core of Ahaondéag.
- Each private group is created and owned by one user (the “Owner”).
- Membership is by invitation only, up to a maximum of 11 members.
- The Owner sets the tone, rules, and membership for their group.
- If the Owner is inactive for 8 weeks, members are notified. If the Owner remains inactive for 11 weeks, the group is automatically closed.
- When a private group closes, “local-only” ideas (ideas with fewer than 6 votes within that group) are deleted.
- Ideas that have reached Listed status (6 or more votes) remain in the global idea pool.
4.2 Public Groups
Public groups are dynamic “mixing circles” that gently rotate members and encourage new connections.
- Every user belongs to exactly one public group at any given time.
- Each user has an individual 11-day rotation timer, starting from the moment they join their current public group.
- Rotation occurs at midnight Irish time (Europe/Dublin) when a user’s personal 11-day cycle completes.
- When a user leaves or is rotated out of a public group, their past posts remain visible to the remaining members but are marked as coming from a “Former member”.
- Users may choose to “Leave this group” once every 3 days, which immediately assigns them to a new public group and starts a fresh 11-day cycle.
- Users may submit a “Report pattern of abuse” for a public group, which alerts Ahaondéag to concerning behaviour. This does not automatically trigger moderation or penalties.
5. Chat and Messaging
- 1-to-1 chat is consent-based; both users must agree before a chat begins.
- Either participant may click “End chat” at any time. Ending a chat closes it and prevents new messages from being sent.
- When a chat is ended, the existing message history remains visible to both users until it is removed under retention rules.
- If a chat has no activity for 11 weeks, the entire conversation (thread and messages) is permanently deleted.
6. Content and Conduct
You are solely responsible for the content you post on Ahaondéag.
You agree not to post content that includes:
- Hate speech or incitement to hatred.
- Threats, harassment, or targeted abuse.
- Illegal content or content encouraging illegal activity.
- Explicit sexual content or pornography.
- Spam, fraud, or deceptive practices.
Groups are encouraged to self-govern and set their own culture within the boundaries of these Terms.
7. Flagging System and Strikes
7.1 Flagging
Members may flag content they believe is harmful or inappropriate.
- Content may be flagged as: Spam, Harm, Hate, or Off-topic.
- When content reaches 6 flags, it is automatically removed from view.
- Only the author of the content can see how many flags their content has received.
- The identity of users who flag content is not disclosed to other members.
7.2 Strikes and Public-Space Penalty
- Each piece of content that is auto-deleted due to flags gives the author 1 strike.
- If a user receives 3 strikes within 11 days, they lose access to all public groups for 11 days.
-
During this public-group suspension, the user retains access to:
- Private groups
- 1-to-1 chat
- After the 11-day period, public-group access is restored and the user re-enters the normal public group rotation.
In cases of severe, illegal, or clearly abusive behaviour, Ahaondéag reserves the right to intervene directly and suspend or terminate accounts outside of the strike system.
8. Ideas and Voting
8.1 Local Stage
Any member may post an idea within their current private or public group. As the author, you always see your idea’s exact vote count.
- When an idea receives 6 votes, it becomes Listed.
- Once Listed, the idea enters the global idea pool and is shown anonymously to all other users.
8.2 Global Stages
As more votes are received, ideas can progress through several stages based on thresholds derived from multiples of eleven, such as:
Listed → Promoted → Elevated → Endorsed → Recommended → Favoured → Adopted
The exact thresholds may be published or adjusted as the community grows, but the underlying principle remains: larger stages require significantly higher levels of community support.
8.3 Visibility
- Author: sees both the exact vote count and the current stage of their idea.
- Group members: see the idea’s stage, but not the author’s identity once it is Listed.
- Public visitors (no login): see idea text, global vote count, stage, and timestamps on public idea boards, without any user identities.
8.4 Archiving
- Ideas that receive no votes for 11 weeks are moved to the Idea Archive.
- Archived ideas remain visible but cannot receive additional votes.
- When a private group closes, any ideas that remain local-only (fewer than 6 votes) are deleted. Listed+ ideas remain in the global idea pool.
8.5 Licensing
You retain ownership of your ideas. However, once an idea becomes Listed, you grant Ahaondéag a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to:
- display the idea within the app and on public idea boards,
- preserve it as part of the Ahaondéag collective philosophy, and
- use it in aggregated or anonymised form in future materials.
This licence continues even if your account is later deleted, so that the idea can remain part of the shared archive.
9. Privacy and Data
Ahaondéag collects only the data necessary to operate the service and maintain safety, such as: email, security metadata, posts, ideas, flags, and chat messages.
Deleted or flagged content may be retained for up to 11 months for security, auditing, and system integrity. Backups are rotated after 11 months.
For full details on what we collect, how we use it, and how long we retain it, please refer to the separate Privacy Policy.
10. Transparency
- Public idea boards show idea content, vote counts, and stages, but no usernames or personal identifiers.
- Moderation and flag histories are visible only within the relevant group or to the users concerned.
- Aggregated statistics (such as total votes or ideas per stage) may be shared publicly in anonymised form.
11. Reporting and Safety
Users may report patterns of harmful behaviour, especially within public groups, using the “Report pattern of abuse” option.
Ahaondéag may review such reports and, where there is credible evidence of serious abuse, harassment, or illegal activity, may:
- issue warnings,
- restrict access to features,
- or suspend/terminate accounts.
12. Council of Eleven
Once the network reaches at least 121 users (11 private groups), each private group may nominate one volunteer to join the Council of Eleven.
The Council:
- meets virtually approximately every 11 weeks,
- reviews community feedback and platform policies,
- and provides advisory recommendations.
When there are more than 11 eligible groups, Council membership may rotate every 11 weeks. Council decisions are advisory and become effective only when reflected in system updates or revised Terms.
13. Intellectual Property
- You retain copyright over your posts, comments, and ideas.
- By posting content, you warrant that you have the right to share it and that it does not infringe the rights of others.
- For ideas that become Listed, you grant Ahaondéag the licence described in Section 8.5.
14. Termination
- You may close your account at any time through the available tools or by contacting support.
- Ahaondéag may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms or otherwise threaten the integrity or safety of the network.
- Once an account has been deleted and the retention period has passed, it cannot be recovered.
15. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
Ahaondéag is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee:
- uninterrupted or error-free operation,
- that all content will be accurate or reliable,
- or that the platform will be free from security vulnerabilities.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ahaondéag and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of the service.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect technical, legal, or community changes. When we do:
- We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
- We may highlight material changes within the app or via email.
Your continued use of Ahaondéag after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
